Calocybe gambosa. Maybe?

Is anyone out there familiar with Calocybe gambosa. The mushrooms I found have the right morphology, spore print and habitat for St. Georges mushroom. It is a locally common early spring mushroom in Europe but has also been reported in North America and it is not uncommon for some early mushrooms to fruit in late fall. I eliminated all the listed lookalikes I could find. Pictures on the net varied somewhat - the ones from France were spot on. If they pop up in the same spot first thing next spring that should nail them down.

For members who did not attend our annual foray at the Sieg Center, I want to extend my thanks to all for the honor of naming the event after me. The woods have been too dry for mushrooming at my stomping grounds, so I'm looking forward to visiting the woods for some serious fungus foraging at our meeting next Sunday. Bill

I'm not up on gps much,but apparently different gps' take different coordinates,so here are four sets:lat. 41.13989 long. -79.671907,set no.2, lat. N410823 long W794018. set no.3 lat. N4108.393 long. 2013 Annual Foray August 16th- 18th

The last day to register for this years foray is August 5th, this weekend long event is held annually at the Seig Center and meals are provided for only $51.00. Folks this means we need to receive your registration by the 5th not mailed the 5th. We need to get a number of participants for the caterer and buy supplies. This will also be the last day for a refund if you have paid but can't attend. If you miss the deadline and want to attend the cost is $60.00 and will only be accepted if we can accommodate your request.

Micro Mushroom

First, there are lots of mushrooms fruiting here in Huntingdon County after an extended period of rain. This is a great time to get out and see the diversity of the mushroom world. I have to admit that I enjoy finding a humongus fungus as much as the next guy. But I also thrill in finding the smaller fungi. Finding the little guys affirms that I am being observant of the natural world around me. And I always figure that if you are seeing the little mushrooms there is a lesser chance that some larger, more prized mushroom will be missed.
