Spring Potluck and morel hunt

Please join us April 21st at 1:00 PM at Bald Eagle State Park. Meet at the pavillion near the swimming beach area. We will have the potluck then look for fungi. Hope to see you there. If I am incorrect with any information, please let me know! Karen

Tricholoma Guide

I just got the new field guide to Tricholomas of North America! I would have to say that this has been my third hardest species to learn. A lot of them have the same macroscopic features at first look. #1 on my list would have to be the Boletes and in second place the Lactarius. I have several books on both the latter ones and still don't know them( except for the prime edibles) and often have to reference the guides. WOOT!

Elections for next year are coming up.

Please attend the next meeting to have your vote counted. Without going into it. Those who attend will be counted, if you would like to run for office, be there. Bev has done an excellent job as treasurer. Ken has kept this going without any complaint ( and has done a most excellent job) We need folks to step up to the plate. I nominate Brenda Palmer for President. I nominate Dave Robb as Vice president I nominate Bev Stutley as treasurer I nominate Ken Meinhart as secratary. I realize that being a member of the executive commitee is a lot of work.

Ride for Sunday

Can anyone give Jeff a ride to and from the meeting on Sunday? He's in State College.

Log innoculation

I attached the instructions for growing Shiitake for those of you who didn't get a copy last Sunday.

What a great time! Ken and I counted 80 logs by the way.

Thanks to Bill Hain for supplying the logs. Paul and Hayden brought 14 more and Dan brought some as well. Dan also shared a technique for log innoclation that I hadn't heard of.

And a great big fat Thank You to Wei Shin, Jason, and Bryn for hosting this event.

Next time I think we should go over the proceedure before we start. Live and learn....

Can anyone find any references to this mushroom?

Growing on an acorn cap. I've photographed it only once although I've found it several times. Can't find anything on it, wish I'd have taken better pictures. It was found in proximity to the fungi that grows on black walnut shells at the fish hatchery near the Seig. Can't believe I  didn't get the underside! If you find it please try to get better pictures for me. Thanks

Mushroom poisoning

Recently there has been some discussion among some of the members on mushroom poisonings this year and the treatment. I've had a lot of questions on this as well from talking to numerous folks interested in eating wild mushrooms so I thought it appropriate to share a few links and talk a bit about this subject.

Mushroom walks/talks this weekend

Sunday Oct. 9 12:30PM  Fall Festival at Little Pine State Park

Free - Join Bill and I if you can make it.

Shiitake are fruiting

For those of you who are cultivating this mushroom, the recent rain has brought on a nice flush. Mine will be producing about two dozen in the next few days.

Foray 2011

Unless we get more people attending, I'm thinking of changing the plans. We only have 8 people registered for this event. We may not be able to have Brenda cater this- it won't be worth her time.

If you plan on coming please E-mail me and copy Laura and Diana. It's very difficult to plan and carry out a weekend event without confirmations from those who are coming. I'd hate to cancel it but it's looking like this may not happen this year.

I realize we are all busy. but your help would be appreciated.
