Annual Bill Russell Foray
August 14,15,16

Join us at Lock Haven University's Sieg Center on beautiful Fishing Creek for mushroom collecting, presentations, and workshops. Stay in the bunkhouse or bring a tent and camp by the creek.

Planned for 2015

  • Friday Check-in followed by a potluck supper (please, no wild mushroom dishes) plan to eat around 6:00 PM till ? After supper we will have a program geared toward beginning mushroomers. We will have microscopes set up in the front room for those who prefer to use them during the beginners program. If the weather is good we will conclude the evening around the campfire. Bedtime is as early or late as you make it.
  • Saturday Breakfast at 8 followed by a mushroom collecting walk until noon. After lunch our experts will work to organize the collection tables and everyone will have the opportunity to work on mushroom identification. We will also have a demonstration of how to make paper with mushrooms and a chance to block print on mushroom paper. Right after our delicious catered supper the silent auction will close and it will soon be time for our first event of the evening. Dr. Barrie Overton will be leading the group in a mushroom "trivia" game. Following That we will have a presentation by Dr. Daniel Lindner who works for the US Forest Service out of Madison Wisconsin. He will be presenting several different topics related to his reseach. After the presentations we will retire to the campfire (maybe roast some corn or make smores) and trade stories until bedtime.
  • Sunday Breakfast will be followed by a cooking demonstration by chef Brenda Palmer Then we will have a short wrap up meeting and we will head home.

For an entertaining account of the 2013 Bill Russell Foray click here. This was written by current club president, Allan Sutley and is very much his personal take on the foray. While each person will emphasize different parts of the experience, his account will, hopefully, give you some sense of the atmosphere of the event.
